Building Enclosure Workshop: Part 1

Join us for an afternoon workshop with hands on training for the installation of air and vapor barriers, waterproofing, and the critical tie-in details and transitions between the systems. A 30-minute classroom session will be followed by 90 minutes of hands on training.

This Workshop will be Part 1 of a two part series of workshops focusing on the detailing of critical components of the exterior wall assembly.  Part 1 begins with examining under slab/foundation waterproofing and air/vapor barrier systems on the lower section of exterior walls. The workshop session will compare liquid and sheet applied barriers and illustrate the critical tie-in details between these systems. Part 2 of the workshop will follow on June 8, 2017 at the International Masonry Institute’s National Training Center in Bowie, Maryland. The focus in Part 2 will be on the detailing of critical components of the upper portions of the exterior wall assembly. More details for this event will be released soon. 

 

Learning Objectives:

 

1. After attending this presentation, participants will be able to understand the basic components of air/vapor membranes and foundation waterproofing.

2. After attending this presentation, participants will be able to understand the typical design, engineering, and performance requirements of installing air/vapor barriers and foundation waterproofing.

3. After attending this presentation, participants will be able to understand the typical details associated with the tie-ins of both liquid and sheet air/vapor barriers and foundation waterproofing systems.

4. After attending this presentation, participants will be able to implement the design principles that provide effective barriers for combined water, air, and vapor through the exterior building envelope.
