The Whole Building Design Guide: The Best Tool to Achieve Resilient, High-Performance Buildings
Presented by Richard Paradis (National Institute of Building Sciences)

Craftsmen, no matter how experienced, know they need the right tools to create a masterpiece. For building designers, contractors and facility managers, their masterpiece is a fully functional, resilient, high-performance building. To achieve that goal, they also need the right tools. Among those tools are BIM, GIS, COBie, 3D printing, CAFM, and CMMS to name a few. But there is one indispensable tool necessary to achieve resilient, high-performance buildings that is missing from this list - the Whole Building Design Guide® (WBDG).

The WBDG is an online resource that provides information for the entire project team from an integrated, whole building, perspective. The WBDG provides clear, understandable information on the key design objectives and their interrelationships. Further, WBDG offers detailed articles (called Resource Pages) on hundreds of building and site related topics, along with thousands of Federal government standards, specifications and guidelines, case studies and nearly one hundred free continuing education courses. The WBDG was recently updated to offer expanded search and browsing capabilities to narrow results, a restructured site menu to improve access to desired information, bookmarking capability for account holders, faster loading and increased performance, responsive template for viewing on any device, larger fonts for readability with larger, quality images, and increased security.
